Through the years, people have asked me, “What is the real difference between what Christians preach and what every other religion in the world teaches?” It’s a fair question. After all, the world is full of belief systems—Mohammed, Buddha, Hare Krishna, Hinduism, and countless others. But there is one distinction so profound, so unmatched, that it separates Christianity from every other faith on earth.

Here it is in one simple statement: Every other god requires that you sacrifice to them. But the God of the Bible sacrificed His own Son as the complete, once-and-for-all sacrifice for His followers. And there no longer remains any sacrifice to Him other than the joyous sacrifice of praise (Hebrews 13:15).

That truth alone changes everything.

In every religion of the world, the pattern is the same: You must give. You must strive. You must perform. You must earn. Their gods demand offerings, rituals, and personal sacrifice in hopes of gaining favor.

But Christianity stands alone. Our God—Jehovah, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ—did not demand that we die for Him. He sent His Son to die for us.

Jesus said that when the Church gathers and takes the bread and the cup, we are to remember His sacrifice. The bread represents His body, broken for us. Scripture tells us in 1 Peter 2:24 that “by His stripes we are healed.” Everywhere you look in the New Covenant, you see His sacrifice—not ours. Isn’t that amazing?

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” He didn’t ask us to climb a mountain, crawl on our knees, or shed our own blood. He gave. He loved. He sacrificed.

And what about the cup? Yes, it represents His blood, but Jesus said something more: “This cup is the New Covenant.” What is that covenant? It is the astonishing reality that all we must do is believe in Him, receive Him as Lord and Savior, confess Him, and we are saved.

Why is it so simple? It is because He paid the price in full. There is nothing left for us to add.

But there is another truth that sets Christianity apart from every other belief system on earth—one that cannot be ignored: Jesus is the only One who rose from the dead and is alive today.

Every other religious leader—Mohammed, Buddha, the founders of Hindu sects, and every spiritual teacher throughout history—lived, died, and remained in the grave. Their followers visit tombs that still hold their remains.

But the tomb of Jesus is empty. He is alive. He is risen. And because He lives, everything He promised is true. Jesus is alive today seated at the right hand of the Father (Ephesians 1:20), interceding for believers (Romans 8:34), and reigning as Lord and High Priest (Hebrews 7:24-25).

What kind of God do we serve? A God unlike any other. A God who loves us. A God who not only died for us, but conquered death so He could live in us.

A friend of mine, who was raised Muslim and is now an evangelical pastor, once told me, “In Islam, Mohammed always called me a slave. But Jesus calls me a son.” That is the difference. Christianity is not built on what we sacrifice for God. Christianity is built on what God sacrificed for us—and on the living Savior who rose again to seal that covenant forever.

As we approach Resurrection Day, these truths become even more powerful. We are not celebrating a tradition, a story, or a memorial to a fallen leader. We are celebrating a living Savior, the only One who defeated death and offers eternal life to all who believe.

And that is why the gospel is truly good news.
